Struthers Middle School October 2018 Newsletter

We want to thank all parents, students and staff for an outstanding beginning to the 2018-2019 school year. We are in our 3rd year of our 1 to 1 Chromebook program. We are currently in our second year of our math curriculum called Carnegie Learning. Our athletic teams have had competitive games and are getting better as the season progresses.

At SMS we believe the performance of the school rises or falls on behavior. We expect all of our stakeholders to live "Above the Line" in everything they do. Above the Line behaviors are conscious and thoughtful - a choice made in alignment with one's goals. They are also intentional and skillful behaviors that must be taught and learned.

Below the line behaviors are impulsive, resistant, takes little effort or skill, and are comfortable and convenient. Below the line behaviors are characterized by the following actions: blaming others, complaining about circumstances, and defending one's self.

STRUTHERS CITY SCHOOLS MISSION

The Struthers City School District in cooperation with family and a community founded on tradition, recognize our role as a catalyst for change to enhance student achievement and develop good character as we create appropriate academic, technological, and vocational opportunities for all students.

Based on the needs of our students, we are dedicated to providing a diversified, integrated, and flexible curriculum that develops independent and responsible citizens capable of making critical decisions.

As a primary partner in providing educational leadership, we will create links with family, business, and community agencies to ensure the continuous improvement of teaching and learning.
