Seventh grade students cheered on their CO2 dragsters as they raced down the 65 foot track set up in the school gym.
The Pre-Engineering and Technology class, taught by Michael Donatelli, spent 3-4 weeks researching force and motion, while designing and building a CO2 dragster. Newton’s three laws of motion were to be used as a guide when working on their designs. At the end of the nine weeks, the class competed in a racing tournament, on a 65 feet long track, to find the fastest car in the class.
The winning car for the first nine weeks was Gianna Rhodes dragster. Her race time was 1.419 seconds, which is a speed calculation of 32 mph. Her car will be one of four to race in the Annual May Madness Dragster Tournament.
