Struthers Middle School

SMS Students Earn Trophies at Northeast Ohio Robotics Education Program

On March 8th, the Struthers Middle School robotics teams competed in the 2017 North East Ohio Robotics Education Program at Youngstown State University. The program is designed to engage and inform students about STEM (science, engineering, technology and math) and the opportunities that exist within those fields.

This years event featured two games that each team’s designed robot had to compete in. In Game 1, the robots had to race around a track, similar to that of a NASCAR track. Game 2 required the robots to follow a line that consists of quick, sharp turns. The fastest time around each track would be declared the winner of each game.

The SMS 8th grade team completed Game 1 in less than 30 second, which earned them a 3rd place trophy. The 8th grade team also won 2nd place for robot design.
