The Spanish Club at Struthers High School went above and beyond to help victims of the recent hurricane and earthquake in Puerto Rico and Mexico!
From October 2-6, the Spanish Club collected food and toiletry items to donate to Loving Touch Ministry in Youngstown to help the victims of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. Spanish teacher and club advisor, Carly Giancola, said, “Maria has left Puerto Rico completely devastated and they are quickly running out of the necessary supplies. We wanted to do our part to help those in need.”
Various items collected include: canned goods, toilet paper, batteries, water, diapers, shampoo and more.
The SHS homeroom that donated the most items will receive a Chick-fil-a breakfast in the coming weeks. As part of the fundraiser, SHS was “competing” against Poland Seminary High School for a chance to be highlighted on WKBN.
The Spanish club also collected $450.86 to donate to victims of the recent earthquake that struck Mexico. The money with be sent to the United Way in Mexico to help with relief efforts.
“Our students members are very passionate about helping others and getting the community involved in their projects,” said Giancola.
