SHS Teacher, Richard Gage, Wins 2017 Barnes & Noble ‘My Favorite Teacher’ Contest

Struthers High School is extending congratulations to English teacher Richard Gage for winning the 2017 Barnes & Noble ‘My Favorite Teacher’ Contest. Gage was nominated by Gabriella McLaughlin.

Gage will be honored and receive an award acknowledging his accomplishments at a ceremony held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 8 at Barnes & Noble, located in the Shops at Boardman Park plaza. McLaughlin, who wrote the winning essay, will also be honored at the ceremony and receive a certificate of recognition.

The 2017 Barnes & Noble My Favorite Teacher Contest ran from January 4 thru March 1. The contest gave middle and high school students the opportunity to nominate their favorite teacher. Students had to write essays, poems or thank-you letters explaining how their teacher influenced their life and why they appreciated and admired them.

Struthers City Schools had a total of 7 teachers nominated by students in the district, all of whom received a gift card to the Barnes & Noble Cafe in Boardman. The students submissions will be on display at Barnes & Noble during the award ceremony on April 8.

Barnes & Noble in Youngstown won the District Award and will continue on, along with Gage and McLaughlin, for a chance to win at the regional competition. Gage also has a chance of being named Barnes & Noble National Teacher of the Year.
