Struthers Elementary School Drop-Off & Dismissal Procedures

ARRIVAL:

SCHOOL BEGINS AT 8:05 a.m. The front driveway of the building is designated for BUSES ONLY.

Students who take part in the breakfast program may enter the building at 7:30 a.m. Students who are eating breakfast need to arrive by 7:45 a.m. so they have time to eat and are not tardy to class. Car riders K-4 are to enter through the back cafeteria doors unless they get dropped off on Elm between 8th and the driveway and walk down the sidewalk to the front of the school.

To ensure the safety of all students and drivers, when dropping off car riders, be patient and wait in the car line, which starts at the corner of ELM & 9th Street going toward Lincoln. Drive slowly and do not pass cars in the line. If you would like to drop off students at the street, do so by the crosswalk after the bus driveway on the curb side of the road. Students should NEVER be dropped off on the right side of the street when facing ELM.

When entering the lot be alert for teachers entering the lot. Parents need to immediately turn right and follow the line of cars. Do not pull forward and cut down the middle lane. Have your child ready to quickly exit the car as this will help move the line along faster. When exiting the parking lot, Go RIGHT. This helps with traffic congestion at the four way stop on Elm Street. Parents do not drop your child off before 7:30 a.m. There will be no supervision.

DISMISSAL:

Dismissal will begin at 2:10 p.m. for walkers, 2:15 p.m. for bus students and 2:20 p.m. for car riders.

All kindergarten car riders and their siblings/carpool mates are dismissed out of the Kindergarten doors and should be picked up beginning around 2:15 p.m. Kindergarten parents/caregivers are to park on Elm and get out of the car so the teachers can match kindergarten students with parents near the hill, sidewalk, or K doors. Fourth grade car riders (and their siblings) exit at 2:20 p.m. from the Kindergarten doors and should be picked up on Elm St. in front of the school. Please pull all the way down in front of the school as the students walk down the sidewalk and then enter their car.

Car riders in grades 1-3 are dismissed out of the rear doors by the playground. When picking up car riders, please be patient and wait in the car line which starts at the corner of Elm & 9th Street and is on the right side of the street when facing Lincoln. Do not pass cars in line and keep the driveway clear between the signs. Please do not come up 9th Street from Lincoln and try to turn left into the parking lot. DO NOT park in the lot and call your child through the cars.

If you are the first car in the front of the line, pull all the way up past the playground. Cars in line in the parking lot are asked to pull up as close together (safe distance apart) to get as many cars off the road as possible. Please be patient. Once the line starts to move as students are dismissed, it goes rather quickly. When exiting the parking lot, GO RIGHT on 9th Street to help the flow of traffic. Parents who wish to park and get out of their car to pick up their children need to park below the driveway on 9th Street and walk up the sidewalk to meet their child(ren) by the playground. Children are NOT to go through the cars in line, go across the parking lot to a waiting car, or go down the back sidewalk alone to meet their ride.

BUS RIDERS: Parents we ask that you are prepared to meet your child at the bus stop early the first two weeks. We will begin loading buses at 2:15-2:20 p.m. and they will leave the building around 2:30 p.m. Times will vary for a few days.
