At a special meeting held by the Struthers Board of Education today, Thursday, June 29, Pete Pirone, Jr. was hired as Superintendent of the District. Also at the meeting, Bethany Carlson was promoted to Lead Principal at Struthers Elementary School, Joan Jones was hired as Principal at Struthers Elementary School and Dave Vecchione was hired as Lead Principal at Struthers Middle School.
Pirone was serving as Interim Superintendent of the District since January, and previously served as assistant superintendent and middle school principal for seven years and elementary principal for four years.
“It’s been an honor and a privilege to serve as the Interim Superintendent and I am looking forward to continuing my role as Superintendent,” said Pirone. “I would like to thank the board for the opportunity and I would also like to thank the staff for their positive working relationships. My goal is to continue to implement innovative programs to help prepare our students for life after graduation.”
Carlson has served as principal at Struthers Elementary School for the past two years and was promoted into the Lead Principal position for the 2017-2018 school Year.
“We are thrilled to move Bethany into the lead principal role at SES. Her knowledge of curriculum and leadership skills make her the ideal candidate to lead the elementary school,” commented Pirone.
Jones has nine years administrative experience serving in both the Hubbard and Austintown Local Schools. Vecchione has seven years as an administrator in the McDonald School District. “We are excited to add these two experienced administrators to the Struthers City Schools team,” Pirone added.
“Struthers just got even better today. This board is confident in Pete’s leadership and how he will add his mark to the students of Struthers. Behind every great leader lies the team that delivers the goals. Struthers took that step by adding the skills of Mr. Vecchione and Mrs. Jones to an already outstanding team,” said Board of Education President, Ron Shives.
