Vote for your Favorite Pumpkin Now thru October 27th!

Vote for your Favorite Pumpkin Now thru October 27th!A local bank engages with Struthers Elementary students for some holiday-focused fun.

This fun is allowing the third-graders to participate in a pumpkin-painting competition.

Each classroom will paint one pumpkin, which will be displayed at Home Savings in Struthers, 32 State St,, where people will vote on the best pumpkin.

“We work really well with our community,” said Michelle Tensley, Home Savings personal banker, on behalf of the bank. “This is something that gets [the students] involved [in the community], and we’re excited to give back to our community as well. And we just love the kids.”

Tensley added Home Savings does many collaborative programs with the local schools to encourage community involvement in the district.

“It’s just really nice being involved in the community,” added Amy Pennel, Home Savings customer-service representative.

Some pumpkin themes are a Struthers Wildcat and a Struthers football player.

Third-grade teacher Amy Thompson said she’s enjoying seeing what students come up with for their class pumpkins. “It’s interesting to see all of their ideas and then see how they work together to make it a reality,” she said.

Third-grade student Leah Markotan said she likes being able to have her artwork on display for the community to see. “My favorite part is seeing it all done and seeing the beautiful work my class created,” she said.

Pumpkins will be on display at the bank for two weeks. People will be encouraged to vote for their favorite pumpkin. The results will be available Oct. 30. The winners will receive a pizza or ice-cream party.
